Moroccan court sentences Swiss to 10 years over terrorism charges, with links to murders of two tourists

RABAT, April 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A Moroccan court sentenced a Swiss national to 10 years in prison for links to the murder of two Scandinavian tourists, Morocco’s official MAP news agency reported.

The 33-year-old defendant was sued for “setting up a gang to prepare and commit terrorist acts aimed at seriously undermining public order, and defending, organizing and failing to report terrorist crimes and acts,” the report said.

The sentenced man, who is a computer advertisement technician, is one of the two Swiss citizens who had been arrested in Morocco in connection with the murder of two Scandinavian hikers on Dec. 17, 2018 near the tourist village of Imlil, 60 kilometers away from Marrakech.

In addition, the Moroccan authorities have arrested over 20 people fo suspected links to the murdering.

The online advertising technician was arrested in December and has a Moroccan wife, according to a lawyer representing another Swiss suspect in the case.

The women tourists, Louyisa Vesterager Jespersen from Denmark and Maren Ueland from Norway, were found dead in their tent in the Atlas Mountains on Dec 17. — NNN-AGENCIES
