LIMA, Dec 1 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa welcomed the willingness of the Presidents of Mexico, Chile, and Colombia to hold the XVII Summit of the Pacific Alliance in Lima on Dec 14, so that the hosting country receives the bloc’s Pro-Tempore Presidency.

The decision was announced by the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry, thus confirming the presence of Presidents: Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of MexicoGabriel Boric of Chile, and Gustavo Petro of Colombia on Peruvian soil for this purpose —along with President Pedro Castillo.

Via Twitter, Landa stressed that this decision reflects the excellent level of relations among the peoples that make up said bloc.

“I reaffirm that, during the Pro-Tempore Presidency of Peru, the integration process will be strengthened, and this bloc will be provided with greater social content to meet the needs of the most vulnerable sectors,” the Cabinet member expressed.

On Nov 17, Peru’s Congress denied Castillo travel authorization required to participate in the XVII Summit of the Pacific Alliance in Mexico.

Therefore, President Lopez Obrador suspended the summit —initially scheduled for Nov 25.

The Pacific Alliance constitutes a regional integration mechanism made up of Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru, through which it seeks to progressively advance towards the free circulation of goods, services, capital, and people.

This is part of a strategy to become a platform for projection to the world, with emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region. — NNN-ANDINA
