ANKARA (Turkey), April 13 (NNN-Bernama) — The Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) will work with several parties in Turkey to build 100 homes in Syria for refugees in the war-torn country.
For that purpose, MAPIM has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkish government’s waqf agency, Turkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV), to build the MAPIM Malaysia Waqf Village in A’zaz, Syria.
MAPIM’s chief executive officer Ahmad Sani Araby Al Kahery said the partnership that would last until 2021 would benefit more than 3,000 Syrian refugees, using the donation from generous Malaysians.
“MAPIM has been carrying out humanitarian mission projects with TDV in the past seven years, and our partnership will be strengthened with this MoU that will see the construction of the MAPIM Malaysia Waqf Village in A’zaz, Syria.
“With this MoU, we will also carry out repair works at several mosques in the vicinity of A’zaz to turn it into madrasah and to build a school for Syrian refugee children with help from the Turkish Ministry of Education as well as several Turkish education non-governmental organisations,” he said to Bernama after the signing of the MoU at the TDV headquarters here Thursday.
He said RM3 million was allocated for the construction of 100 units of three-bedroom home, with the funding was generated from the donation received via the Waqf Myhome for Syrian Family project that was launched last year.
Ahmad Sani also urged Malaysians who wanted to help ease the burden of more than six million Syrian refugees in the country, to continue donating to the Syrian Humanitarian Mission fund at www.tabungsyria.com or via Maybank account 5628-3463-6987 (Syria Emergency Appeal) to help the cause.
Meanwhile, TDV director-general Mehmet Savas Polat said that MAPIM was made its strategic partner because he was confident with the management’s capability to implement the MAPIM Malaysia Waqf project.
