BRUSSELS, Nov 24 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The chief negotiators of Serbia and Kosovo held talks here on Wednesday to find a solution to the so-called license plate crisis, the European Commission reported.
On Monday, a first round ended without an agreement, head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said.
A few days ago, and after months of disagreements between Belgrade and Pristina, the Serbian Minister of Defense, Milos Vucevic, announced that the Armed Forces of his country are on high alert, according to TV Happy channel.
For his part, Serbian President Alexander Vucic, as supreme commander-in-chief, ordered the army to increase the level of preparedness to respond to any task.
The escalation of tensions began when the Kosovar authorities banned the circulation of vehicles with Serbian license plates and set Sept 1 as the deadline for the change of documentation.
The closure of border crossings, roads and accesses on both sides ensued, so the Pristina government postponed this controversial measure.
Belgrade warned that the aim of the regulation is to expel the Serbian population residing in the northern part of the autonomous territory and to create chaos.
Vucic accused Kosovar Prime Minister Albin Kurti of trying to impose measures to which he has no right and which are contrary to the agreements between the parties, reached after an EU-sponsored dialogue. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
