HAVANA, Nov 23 (NNN-ACN) — The presidents of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, and Russia, Vladimir Putin, held official talks in the Kremlin Tuesday where they discussed the prospects for deepening economic, trade, financial and cooperation ties.
Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, said on Twitter that the meeting confirmed the common will to strengthen the historic relations between the two countries, as well as the high level of political dialogue.
Diaz-Canel commented that his visit to that Eurasian country has a deep significance, since it takes place at a time when both Russia and Cuba are subject to sanctions that come from and originate from the same enemy, and he described as unjust and arbitrary.
The Cuban leader highlighted the role played by the Russian Federation in seeking to change the world, to move towards multipolarity, and stressed that Russia and Putin, in particular, stand out as leaders in this process.
Both nations, Diaz-Canel stressed, coincide in their views on the global problems that are affecting humanity.
Once again, I want to reiterate that Russia can always count on Cuba and all our will, our commitment as admirers of Russian history, of Russian culture, as admirers of its leadership, he said.
He also stressed that Cuba will do everything to continue strengthening, narrowing and expanding bilateral relations.
For his part, the Russian president stated that Moscow and Havana should go ahead and strengthen their cooperation, taking into account the current situation, based on this strong foundation of friendship, and added that he was very happy to have this opportunity.
He affirmed that first the Soviet Union and then Russia have always supported and continue supporting the Cuban people in their struggle for independence, for sovereignty, opposed to any kind of sanctions, sanctions, embargoes and blockades and Cuba adopts the same position towards Russia.
Putin also asked his Cuban counterpart to convey his best wishes to Army General Raul Castro. — NNN-ACN
