HAVANA, Nov 22 (NNN-ACN) — Cuba is observing with hope the resumption of the talks between the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN), said the first secretary of the Cuban Party’s Central Committee and president of the country, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.
On Twitter, the Cuban leader, who is on an official visit to Russia, pointed out that the resumption of this process represents an opportunity to achieve the peace deserved by the Colombian people.
He also stressed that Cuba is participating in these peace dialogues in its capacity as guarantor, based on official requests received from the Colombian government and the ELN.
At the same time, the Cuban foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, on the same social network ratified his country’s support to the process and wished both parties success in the proposed agenda.
Delegations of the Colombian government and the ELN resumed Monday, in Caracas, Venezuela, their negotiations to advance in a peace process and the full construction of democracy.
According to Prensa Latina, the meeting is accompanied by Cuba, Norway and Venezuela as guarantor countries, after last August the new Colombian government and the ELN announced the resumption of the process.
Last Oct 4, in an exploratory meeting, the parties agreed to reinstate the peace talks and resume the set of agreements and advances achieved since the signing of the agenda on March 30, 2016.
The dialogue began in February 2017 in Ecuador, then moved to Havana and in 2019 the talks were suspended after an attack against a police school in Bogota, which left 23 dead and dozens wounded. — NNN-ACN
