Nine killed after vehicle plunges into dam in north Nigeria

KANO (Nigeria), Nov 20 (NNN-Xinhua) — At least 9 people were killed after a vehicle carrying 12 people plunged into a dam in north Nigeria’s Kano state on Saturday, according to an official on Sunday.

Saminu Abdullahi, a spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, said in a statement that a Golf Wagon on Saturday evening lost control after experiencing a tire blast, and fell inside the Fada dam in the Gwarzo area of the state.

“On receiving the information, we quickly sent out our rescue team to the scene to bring the victims out,” Abdullahi said, adding 9 people were rescued unconscious and conveyed to a local hospital for medical attention while doctors on duty confirmed the victims’ deaths.

The other three people were rescued alive, he said.
