Cuba and Algeria promote scientific exchanges

ALGIERS, Nov 19 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Cuba and Algeria promoted the beginning of scientific exchanges between the Algiers-based Pasteur Institute (IPA) and other similar institutions in Cuba, including the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute.

Cuban Public Health Minister Jose Angel Portal noted that, as part of the events held in Algeria on Wednesday, the delegation he is heading visited the IPA facilities and appreciated the development achieved by that renowned scientific institution.

Portal added that at a meeting with IPA Director Derrar Fawzi, they assessed the possibility of initiating exchanges between this institution and other Cuban counterparts.

The Health minister added that they agreed to expand and strengthen joint actions that will allow them to share experiences on issues such as arbovirus surveillance and antimicrobial resistance studies in infections associated with healthcare and tuberculosis.

They also expressed interest in establishing links in aspects such as genomic surveillance of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and dengue, exchanging research on other health-related issues, as well as promoting the production of biological products.

On Tuesday, Portal held a meeting with Algerian Minister of Health Abdelhak Saihi, at which they expressed interest in strengthening relations in this sector and in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Saihi also expressed his country’s intention to expand ties in areas such as the training of health professionals, which Portal shared. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
