Mumbai Conducted Door-To-Door Surveillance Amid More Measles Cases

MUMBAI, Nov 12 (NNN-PTI) – India’s financial capital, Mumbai, conducted a door-to-door surveillance campaign, in the north-east suburb of the city, as 84 cases of measles have been reported in the past two months, an official said yesterday.

Last month, three children of less than five years old lost their lives within 48 hours.

India’s federal health ministry, instructed a three-member team to track the surge in cases and assist the state health authorities, to draw up public health measures and containment measures.

India has set a goal to eliminate measles by 2023, and establish a task force in every district, to achieve over 95 percent of vaccination among eligible kids.

The Indian health authorities had prescribed vaccination, under an immunisation programme, at nine-12 months of age, and the second dose at 16-24 months of age.– NNN-PTI
