Vietnam’s Capital On Alert With Increasing Dengue Fever Cases

HANOI, Nov 10 (NNN-VNA) – Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi, is on alert as it has seen the biggest increase in dengue fever cases in the country, local media reported, yesterday.

The weekly number of infections in the city has risen from 500 to 700 per week in Sept, to 1,200 to 1,400 at the end of Oct, the Vietnam News reported.

The city has recorded nearly 10,000 dengue fever cases so far this year, almost tripling the number of the same period in 2021.

Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam reported a total of 292,439 cases of dengue fever and 112 deaths.

The Hanoi Centre for Disease Control warned that, the number of infections in the city might continue to rise, resulting in more severe cases and fatalities. Forecasts said that, the peak of the disease would likely be mid-Nov.

According to Tran Thi Nhi Ha, director of Hanoi’s Health Department, besides favourable weather for disease-carrying mosquitos, this year is also part of a five-year cycle in which significant dengue outbreaks are recorded.– NNN-VNA
