KABUL, Nov 7 (NNN-ANA) – The burial site of Taliban co-founder, Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid, has been disclosed in Afghansitan’s southern Zabul province, chief spokesman of Afghanistan’s Taliban-run caretaker government, Zabihullah Mujahid, said.
“The tomb of late Amirul Mominen (Supreme leader) Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid, was revealed to the public at a ceremony attended by ranking officials in Omarzo area of Suri district, Zabul province, yesterday,” Mujahid tweeted.
Acting Prime Minister, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, and other cabinet members attended the ceremony, according to Mujahid.
After his hierarchy was dethroned from power, following the U.S.-led military invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, Omar went underground, and according to media reports, died of illness in 2013, in Pakistan.
However, his supporters denied the report, claiming Omar passed away nine years ago, inside Afghanistan and was buried secretly to avoid the possible revenge of enemies.
