ANKARA (Turkey), April 11 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisations (Mapimhas allocated RM2.4 million to purchase 1,000 nanotechnology tents which would benefit 5,000 refugees in Syria.

Mapim chief executive officer Dr Ahmad Sani Araby Al Kahery said the tents were acquired through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) with the Turkish Red Crescent (Turk Kizilayi)- the largest humanitarian organisation in the Republic.

“Mapim has been working closely with Turk Kizilayi for the past four years, and through this MoU, we are looking at the opportunity to strengthen the relationship with the agency by purchasing 1,000 of their tents to help Syrian refugees, most of whom are still stranded in that turbulent country.

“RM2.4 million has been allocated for this purchase, as we are confident with the quality of the self-manufactured tents by Turk Kizilayi’s Research & Development (R&D) team, which is capable of staying up for two years, easy to build within five minutes and can withstand extreme weather,” he told Bernama after the signing of the MoU between the two parties at the Turk Kizilayi headquarters here.

According to Ahmad Sani, each 4×5 metre tent can accommodate a family of four.

Ahmad Sani added that the purchase of the tents was a stop-gap measure as Mapim looks to build the Ummah Village through a long-term plan with Turk Kizilayi.

“The Ummah Village will provide a three-room house that can be occupied by at least seven people at one time,” he said, adding Mapim and Turk Kizilayi also worked closely to provide various other assistance including food and necessities such as blankets and clothes to more than 500,000 families.

Mapim calls on Malaysians to continue donating to the Syrian Humanitarian Mission fund at www.tabungsyria.com or via Maybank account 5628-3463-6987 (Syria Emergency Appeal) to help the cause.

Meanwhile, Turk Kizilayi deputy director-generaI Ibrahim Ozer said their self-manufactured tents used nanotechnology for the canvas and tent frames, certified by European standards, as well as being waterproof and windproof certified.

“This new type of tent which uses nanotechnology has proven to survive all types of weather conditions…as of December 2018, we have sent 10,250 units to wherever it is needed around the world,” he said.
