BOGOTA, Oct 30 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Colombia’s National Liberation Army (ELN) handed over a person it was holding to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The ICRC confirmed to the press today that a humanitarian mission received the person Saturday in a rural area of Magdalena Medio.
After verifying that he was in good health, the ICRC team transferred him to another area to reunite him with his family.
‘When persons are in the power of an armed actor they experience uncertainty and anguish, as do their loved ones, which is why we value this humanitarian gesture that made it possible for this person to regain his freedom and be reunited with the family,’ the ICRC said.
Stephanie Eller, head of the ICRC sub-delegation in Bucaramanga, thanked the parties involved for trusting the ICRC’s humanitarian work and allowing them to act as a neutral intermediary to facilitate this release.
During this year 2022, the ICRC has facilitated the release of 45 people held by armed groups. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
