NEW DELHI, Oct 26 (NNN-PTI) – Many places in India witnessed a partial solar eclipse yesterday, officials said.
The Indian Institute of Astrophysics, live-streamed the celestial phenomenon.
The celestial event was viewed across multiple Indian cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Ludhiana, Agra, Chandigarh and Gandhinagar. However, it lasted for the maximum duration in Gujarat’s Dwarka.
The Indian ministry of earth sciences had urged people, not to view the eclipsed sun with the naked eyes.
“Eclipsed sun should not be viewed with the naked eye, even for a very short time. It will cause permanent damage of the eyes, leading to blindness, even when the Moon covers most portion of the sun,” the ministry said.
“Safe technique to observe the solar eclipse is either by using proper filter, like aluminised Mylar, black polymer, welding glass of shade number 14, or by making projection of the Sun’s image on a white board by telescope.”
“The next solar eclipse will be visible from India on Aug 2, 2027. It will be a total solar eclipse. From all parts of the country it will be seen as partial solar eclipse,” the ministry said, in a statement.
A solar eclipse occurs on a new moon day, when the moon comes in between the earth and the sun, and when all three heavenly bodies are aligned. A partial solar eclipse will occur when the lunar disk covers the solar disk partially.
Reports said, the solar eclipse will be followed by a lunar eclipse, that is scheduled to happen on Nov 8, this year.– NNN-PTI
