MUMBAI, Oct 25 (NNN-PTI) – A 16-month old girl lost her life, after a leopard attacked her in Mumbai’s western Suburb of Aarey colony, yesterday.
The girl was on her way to visit a temple with her mother, yesterday morning, when the leopard attacked and injured her. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead by the doctors, local police said.
This was the second such incident of leopard attack in Aarey colony, during the month. A four-year-old boy was attacked earlier this month. Last year, over 10 people lost their lives to leopard attack.
Spread over 16 square km, Aarey colony is a rich urban forest, located in the western suburb of Mumbai, near Sanjay Gandhi National Park. It is an eco-sensitive zone and classified as mixed moist deciduous type forest and one of few green spaces left, in India’s financial capital.
The Sanjay Gandhi National Park is the only National park in the world to be located within the metro limits of a city and houses 47-odd leopards.– NNN-PTI
