ABUJA, Oct 20 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The assault on a hospital in Nigeria at dusk on Tuesday by unknown gunmen left a toll of two dead and about 20 kidnapped, according to unconfirmed local media reports.
The attackers stormed into the health center, shot two patients dead, and took two dozen civilians as hostages, apparently to demand a ransom in cash, according to the daily Leadership, which quoted Niger Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.
The official called on federal authorities to carry out a rapid operation to secure the release of those kidnapped, including one of the hospital doctors.
Uncertainty about the affiliation of the assailants results from similar modus operandi of the Islamic Boko Haram movement and its offshoot Islamic State in the West African Province. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
