ADEN, Yemen, April 11 (NNN-SABA) – At least one Yemeni citizen was killed, during an explosion of a landmine in the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, Wednesday, a security official said.
The local security source said, “One of the landmines, planted by the Houthi fighters, exploded on a public road, killing a citizen in the district of Durayhmi, south of Hodeidah province.”
The Yemeni citizen, identified as 22-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed Hassan, died immediately, following the explosion, the source said.
Landmines and explosives of various kinds and sizes are considered a deadly long-standing threat to the lives of millions of Yemenis, and have killed and injured hundreds of them, including women and children.
Previous reports by humanitarian organisations suggested that, Yemen has become one of the largest landmine battlefields in the world, since World War II.
The conflict between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed Yemeni government has recently entered its fifth year, aggravating the sufferings of Yemenis and deepening the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.– NNN-SABA
