BUENOS AIRES, Oct 18 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Thousands of Argentine workers took to the streets to gather at the capital’s Plaza de Mayo to call for unity, sovereignty, respect for rights and democracy.
On Peronist Loyalty Day, members of a great number of organizations expressed their strong support to the Frente de Todos (FdT) and condemned the assassination attempt on Vice President Cristina Fernández past Sept 1.
Among participating groups were the Frente Sindical para el Modelo Nacional, the Corriente Federal de los Trabajadores, La Cámpora, Unidad Popular y Peronismo Militante, Madres de Plaza de Mayo Línea Fundadora, the Central de Trabajadores de Argentina (CTA) and the CTA Autónoma, among others.
All these entities issued a joint statement assuring that national unity “will only be lasting if it is built with the people as protagonists and must be based essentially on the search for the common good through the path of peace towards the full conquest of social justice”.
They also condemned the existence of a corporate de facto power controlled by a few that operates beyond the democratic system, mocks people´s will and frustrates their legitimate aspirations.
De facto power acts violently to preserve its privileges by controlling basic economic sectors. It speculates and extorts from inside and outside our territory, and uses IMF indebtedness as an imperialist weapon in complicity with local groups.
It also condemned the manipulation by mass media and the use of judicial power for persecution and proscription of popular leaders.
During the act, the CTA Secretary-General and FdT deputy Hugo Yasky warned about dangers of neoliberalism defended by the opposition alliance Juntos por el Cambio and former president Mauricio Macri (2015-2019).
Demonstrators shouted Néstor (Kirchner) lives! and Cristina President! “This is the feeling of this square and of the vast majority of those who watch us nationwide,” said Yasky.
Parliamentarian and leader of the Justicialist Party in the province of Buenos Aires Máximo Kirchner, on the other hand, accused Macri of indebting and destroying the State. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
