VATICAN CITY, Oct 18 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa signed an agreement to repatriate three mummies of Peruvian origin that had been kept at the Vatican Museums since 1925.
The agreement was inked by the Peruvian government official and the President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, Cardinal Fernando Vergez.
During the Monday ceremony, held at the Vatican Ethnological Museum, Landa reiterated Peru’s commitment to protect its cultural heritage in all its forms.
Prior to this, he met with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and the Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
Earlier, Landa was received by Pope Francis, with whom he highlighted the ties between Peru and the Holy See, as well as the importance of governance for sustainable development and the closing of social gaps in favor of those most in need.
Said activities are part of the minister’s agenda prepared within the framework of his working visit to different countries scheduled for Oct 12-21.
In addition to the Holy See, the Peruvian government official will visit Belgium, France, Italy and Mexico.
As part of his trip to Rome, Italy, Landa will participate in the events to take place within the framework of the World Food Forum, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Pres Pedro Castillo is also participating in the World Food Forum virtually from the Government Palace in Lima.
On World Food Day on Sunday, Vice-President Dina Boluarte said that the Government is committed to eradicating hunger across the country.
“Peru has joined the commitment to eradicate hunger in the world. We work tirelessly for food security,” she said in a post on her official Twitter account.
Boluarte, who also serves as Minister of Development and Social Inclusion, remarked that her portfolio has increased its 2022 budget by 66% to guarantee the supply of food for more than 14,000 soup kitchens throughout the year. — NNN-ANDINA
