CUSCO (Peru), Oct 18 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Pedro Castillo announced the unlocking of hospital construction projects, noting that health is a right of all Peruvians and the State is responsible for ensuring such right.

During the signing of the contract and the start of work to build Antonio Lorena Hospital in the Andean city of Cusco, he said that this unfinished project has passed through various administrations and nothing has been done about it.

“Today this is over. No more abandoned and unfinished hospitals,” he pointed out.

He said that the most important lesson of the COVID-19 pandemic is that people’s health must not be neglected or ignored.

Castillo stressed that if another pandemic occurs in the future, people cannot be vulnerable or unprotected.

“We must strengthen the health system today, get additional beds, respirators, medicines, among other services for efficient care,” he said.

Under this premise, he announced that, as part of the state-to-state contract with France, an addendum was signed to resume and continue the works at Sergio Bernales Hospital for patients in Northern Lima.

The President stated that contingency infrastructure works at Nuevo Andoas health center, in Datem del Marañon province of Loreto region, will begin on Tuesday, Oct 18, which will provide medical services to native communities. — NNN-ANDINA
