CANBERRA, Oct 12 (NNN-AAP) – Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, paid tribute to the victims of the Bali bombings, 20 years on, from the terrorist attack.
“Australia today marks 20 years since the 2002 Bali bombings and tragic loss of 202 lives,” Anthony Albanese said, in a media release today.
“Together, on what will be a difficult day for many in Australia, Indonesia and around the world, we honour the lives of the victims and the courage and resilience shown by survivors and their families.”
Across the country today, services are held to honour those who died and the courage of survivors.
Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Penny Wong, hosted a memorial service at Parliament House in Canberra, where victims’ families, survivors and first responders will be joined by Governor-General, David Hurley.
Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Tim Watts, travelled to Bali, to attend a commemorative ceremony at the Australian Consulate-General.
“Australians united as a nation and recommit ourselves to fight against terrorism and extremism wherever we find it,” Albanese told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.– NNN-AAP
