World Bank To Loan 125 Million USD To Support Jordan’s Agricultural Sector

AMMAN, Oct 12 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan signed yesterday, a loan agreement worth 125 million U.S. dollars with the World Bank, to support the country’s agriculture sector.

The loan agreement, signed in the United States, seeks to support Jordan’s agricultural sector, by enhancing its climate resilience, increasing competitiveness and inclusion, and ensuring medium- to long-term food security, the World Bank said in a statement, yesterday.

In the next five years, about 30,000 farming households will be provided with financing, as part of the loan, to adopt climate-smart and water-efficient agriculture practices.

The loan also entails providing needs-based training and will help create about 12,000 jobs, especially for Jordanian women and youth.

The programme will also provide economic opportunities for Syrian refugees, the World Bank said, adding that, agriculture is an important source of income for “Jordan’s poor, and a large number of Syrian refugees.”– NNN-PETRA
