Peru: Coronavirus cases totalled 4,148,457 with 216,727 death as 2,687 monkeypox cases recorded

LIMA, Oct 10 (NNN-ANDINA) — The number of citizens infected with COVID-19 rose to 4,148,457 and the death toll reached 216,727 in Peru as of Oct 7, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported.

Within this framework, 147 new cases were detected and 5 people passed away due to the virus on Oct 7 while 31,191,346 samples tested negative for COVID-19 out of a total of 35,339,803.

It must be noted that 4,042,304 people have been discharged and declared healthy. Other 510 were hospitalized.

Minsa also reported that 84,616,845 doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 have been so far administered in Peru, with 25,732,673 were given as second dose, thus accounting for 90.04% of the target population.

The ministry said 20,778,803 citizens have been vaccinated with a third dose, accounting for 72.71% of the general population. Similarly, 5,213,139 people have received the fourth dose.

On MONKEYPOX, Minsa reported that the number of confirmed cases in Peru has risen to 2,687.

In a separate tweet, Minsa stated that cases were reported in Metropolitan Lima (2,083), Lima Provinces (34), Callao (184), La Libertad (127), Arequipa (108), Piura (22), Lambayeque (21), Ucayali (19), Ica (16), San Martin (14), Cusco (13), Loreto (11), Tacna (10), Ancash (6), Madre de Dios (6), Junin (5), Huanuco (3), Cajamarca (2), Moquegua (2), and Puno (1).

Minsa reported 2,291 hospital discharges. Besides, all patients received medical care and are being monitored, as contacts are identified. 

The ministry encouraged the population to call line 113, extension 6, or go to the nearest health facility in case they have symptoms like rashes or skin lesions.
