CANGALLO (Ayacucho region, Peru), Oct 10 (NNN-ANDINA) — President Pedro Castillo announced that he will again ask Congress for authorization to travel abroad in order to meet political and economic commitments aimed at closing social gaps in the country.
Remarks were made during the ceremony marking the 208th anniversary of the first oath of Peruvian independence held in the province of Cangallo in Ayacucho region.
Castillo expressed concern about the recent decision of Parliament not to authorize a trip abroad, adding that said attitude is inconsistent with the stance of the population.
“We had scheduled to leave the country this week to enter into a commitment with the FAO so as to be given a budget for children and young people, but this power has been denied to us,” he remarked.
However, the President of the Republic affirmed that he will not cease in his attempt to gain authorization.
“Political and economic commitments outside the country are pending, so next week we will again ask Congress for authorization to leave the country,” Castillo said.
“It (the trip) is not for tourism purposes. The aim is to secure commitments in favor of children and mothers in Cangallo, as well as farmers in Ayacucho and across Peru,” he added.
According to the top official, the Government is giving priority to those who have been historically neglected.
“I will resist and continue fighting to close historical gaps,” the President emphasized at the ceremony.
Castillo on Sunday led the ceremony marking the 208th anniversary of the first oath of Peruvian independence.
The ceremony took place in the province of Cangallo, in Ayacucho region, where the historic event occurred.
The Head of State was accompanied by Ministers Jenny Ocampo (Agrarian Development, and Irrigation), Cesar Paniagua (Housing, Construction, and Sanitation, and Willy Huerta (Interior). The delegation reached the Basilio Auqui Roundabout to unveil a plaque and place a wreath.
Afterwards, the dignitary headed to Cangallo’s Main Square to participate in the main commemorative event.
