MOSCOW, Oct 6 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Russia insisted on participating in the investigation of the attacks on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines, which occurred on Sept 26 in the Baltic Sea.
“We have heard alarming statements ruling out cooperation with Russia and we consider that our country’s participation in the inspection and investigation of the gas pipeline attacks should be mandatory,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.
On Sept 26, Nord Stream 2 AG, operator of the Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline, reported a gas leak in one of the two pipelines of the infrastructure near the Danish island of Bornholm for unknown reasons.
It was later revealed that the two lines of the parallel Nord Stream 1 pipeline had also been damaged.
Sweden’s seismological network reported that its equipment detected powerful underwater explosions that day, the SVT television channel reported. Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service labeled the explosions as terrorist attacks and reported that it possessed evidence pointing to the involvement of certain Western countries.
The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office opened an international terrorism investigation following the damage to the two pipelines, in an area of the Baltic Sea infested by North Atlantic Treaty Organization warships.
Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod said that his government will prevent Russia from participating in the investigation of the pipeline sabotage.
Peskov remarked his country awaits clarifications from the Danish and Swedish authorities. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
