PARIS/BRUSSELS, Oct 5 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The French Public Health Agency on Tuesday reported about 89,185 new cases of Covid-19, the highest toll for a day in recent months.
Although the number of cases could include results from the weekend, it is much higher than Sept. 20´s report (51,816) and Sept. 27 (73,639).
The country´s incidence rate, on the other hand, rose to 468 per 100,000 inhabitants, well above that reported a month ago.
Hospitalization rating also reflects the fresh wave, with 15,535 people admitted, 369 more than those reported on Monday, while ICUs patient toll amounted to 888.
Regarding deaths, the health agency reported 74 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the country´s overall toll to 155,272 since the outbreak of Covid-19 in March 2020.
BRUSSELS: The Belgian Institute of Public Health Sciensano confirmed the existence in the country of a new wave of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the cause of the Covid-19 pandemic, RTBF reported.
According to virologist Stephen van Gucht, the wave of incidence began last week, when the number of Covid-19 cases detected per day increased by 26% to 2,823 and hospitalization of infected people increased by 28% to 94 per day.
The Belgian specialist predicted the arrival of a new wave two weeks ago, and its peak, according to him, is expected in mid-October.
Meanwhile, the source indicated, that 92.3% of patients are infected with a subvariant of the Omicron BA.5 strain. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
