LIMA, Oct 5 (NNN-ANDINA) — Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa reiterated Peru’s commitment to open trade as a State policy that is based on more than 22 free trade agreements signed with different strategic partners in different parts of the world.
He was addressing the inauguration of the business forum “Peru and the regional economic scenario,” which took place within the framework of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).
Landa noted that foreign trade is an important generator of jobs in the country and contributes up to 25% of GDP.
“The Peruvian Government reaffirms its commitment to open trade as a State policy that is based on more than 22 free trade agreements signed with strategic partners in different regions of the world,” he said.
In this regard, he mentioned the economies in Asia and Oceania participating in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
He also noted that, in the region, Peru is a member of the Andean Community (CAN), the Pacific Alliance and Mercosur. Moreover, it has signed agreements with partners in Central America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
“Peru currently holds the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Andean Community, and will assume that of the Pacific Alliance and APEC, as well as the Andean Development Corporation,” the Cabinet member commented.
He also underlined that Peru’s commercial exchange grew more than 20% in 2021 compared to post-pandemic figures, thanks to a sharp increase in mining and agribusiness exports. — NNN-ANDINA
