Peru: Coronavirus cases total 4,144,416; death toll reaches 216,575 as monkeypox cases risen to 2,554

LIMA, Oct 2 (NNN-ANDINA) — The number of citizens infected with COVID-19 rose to 4,144,416 and the death toll reached 216,575 in Peru, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported.

Within this framework, 305 cases were detected and 16 people passed away due to the virus on the analyzed day Sept 30. 31,032,118 samples tested negative for COVID-19 —out of a total of 35,176,534.

It must be noted that 4,039,084 people have been discharged and declared healthy. Other 568 were hospitalized.

4,451,769 doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 have been so far administered in Peru, Minsa said.

Out of that total, 25,724,634 were given as second dose, thus accounting for 90.01% of the target population. Within this framework, 20,740,405 citizens have been vaccinated with a third dose or 72.57% of the general population while 5,132,367 people have received the fourth dose.

On the MONKEYPOX cases, Minsa reported that the number of confirmed cases in Peru has risen to 2,554.

In a tweet on Saturday morning, Minsa stated that cases were reported in Metropolitan Lima (1,982), Lima Provinces (29), Callao (176), La Libertad (123), Arequipa (105), Piura (20), Lambayeque (19), Ucayali (17), Ica (15), Cusco (13), Tacna (10), San Martin (10), Loreto (10), Ancash (6), Madre de Dios (6), Junin (5), Huanuco (3), Cajamarca (2), Moquegua (2), and Puno (1).

Minsa reported 2,080 hospital discharges. Besides, all patients received medical care and are being monitored, as contacts are identified. 

The ministry encouraged the population to call line 113, extension 6, or go to the nearest health facility in case they have symptoms like rashes or skin lesions. — NNN-ANDINA
