LIMA, Oct 2 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peruvian Pres Pedro Castillo on Saturday conveyed greetings to journalists nationwide on the occasion of the day of women and men dedicated to the profession of reporting.

The Head of State reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to respecting freedom of the press and expression.

Via his Twitter account, the top official greeted the women and men of the press who celebrate their day today.

“My appreciation and greetings to the journalists who practice their profession responsibly, without bias or discrimination, and under principles of objectivity; to those who write and report truthfully. We will continue to respect freedom of the press and expression. Happy (Journalists’) Day!” Castillo expressed.

In Peru, the Journalists’ Day is celebrated on Oct 1, commemorating the appearance of Diario de Lima. It was founded by journalist Francisco Antonio Evaristo Cabello y Mesa, who used to write under the pseudonym Jaime Bausate y Meza, in 1790.

This became the first publication to address local issues, with some medical reports related to healing practices of that time.

The Day of Peruvian Journalists was proclaimed on Oct 1, 1953, via Supreme Decree No. 2521. — NNN-ANDINA
