BEIRUT, Lebanon, April 10 (NNN-NNA) – Arab League (AL) Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that, the time has not come yet for Syria to restore its membership in the Arab bloc.
“We have discussed the possibility of Syria restoring its membership in the Arab League, but the solution to this issue has not matured yet,” the AL chief said, following his meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil.
Aboul Gheit’s meeting with Bassil aimed to discuss outcome of the AL summit, which was held on March 31, in Tunisia.
He said that he has been in contact with Arab countries for this purpose.
The AL froze Syria’s membership, citing that Damascus failed to stop violence against civilian protesters, back in 2011.– NNN-NNA
