UNITED NATIONS, Sept 25 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed the strategic and historical relations between the two countries, and also expressed the willingness to carry them out in a great number of fields.
In a meeting held at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Lavrov and Al-Mekdad discussed issues of common interest and various regional and international developments, official reports said.
The two foreign ministers agreed upon significance of building a multipolar world order based on the international law norms and the provisions of the UN Charter, far from the mentality of Western and unipolar hegemony.
The Syrian foreign minister reiterated, on the other hand, his country’s support for the Russian special military operation in Ukraine and for Russia’s right to protect from Western threats and aggressive actions.
As for Syria´s situation, Lavrov said Russia will continue providing support to Syria so as to preserve its sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, in addition to aiding in the crackdown on terrorism and to confront unilateral coercive measures that negatively affect Syrians´ lives. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
