JAKARTA, Sept 23 (NNN-Bernama) — ASEAN foreign ministers will convene here next month for the preparatory meeting in the run-up to the November group summit in Cambodia, Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
In a statement, it said the ministers agreed on the upcoming gathering during their informal meeting in New York to discuss the summit preparation on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi also secured ministers’ approval at Thursday’s meeting to a proposal ensuring leaders specifically discussed the implementation issue of the five points consensus on Myanmar.
She reiterated that the common interest of ASEAN must be a top priority and the group community development progress must continue, the statement read.
On April 24, 2021, the nine ASEAN leaders and Myanmar junta chief, Min Aung Hlaing, agreed to the five points: an immediate end to violence in the country; dialogue among all parties; the appointment of a special envoy; humanitarian assistance by ASEAN; and the special envoy’s visit to Myanmar to meet with all parties.
