Mexico to present peace proposal this week at UN: Pres Lopez Obrador

MEXICO CITY, Sept 21 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Mexico will present this week at the UN General Assembly its peace proposal for the conflict in Ukraine and a global truce, announced Pres Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

In his morning press conference at the National Palace, the president reiterated that Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard will present it and is already making contacts with his peers in other countries and the same is being done by representative Jose Ramon de la Fuente with ambassadors.

We, he repeated, do not agree with the invasion, but neither with the economic sanctions nor with the sending of weapons, we are in favor of peace and we consider that it is indispensable to start a dialogue for this because it is an irrational war, it produces much suffering, displaced people, refugees and loss of human lives.

He wondered why to prolong the conflict by supplying weapons and do nothing to stop it, and to its consequences it should be added that it unleashed and aggravated world inflation.

That is why it is convenient to hold talks, not to make propaganda and to put an end to the tale of the good and the bad, when what must be put first is the interest of the people, the suffering of the people and to accept that one thing are the interests of the elite and another the interests of the people who do not want war’, he said.

This also has to do with the political and economic genesis and the social communication mechanisms, but not with the people who are the ones who are harmed, he clarified.

Lopez Obrador said that ‘it is very easy to give orders from above because the bomb does not fall near the fridge, politicization is so easy, the debate from above, but that is very irresponsible and not to be gloating over the suffering of the people, he said when affirming that this is the responsibility of the hegemonic powers’.

That is why we propose the creation of an international peace committee, to be headed by the president of India, the pope and the UN secretary general, who could help a lot by talking to the presidents of Ukraine and Russia to reach an agreement and at the same time seek a global truce, he said. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
