BOGOTA, Sept 21 (NNN-Xinhua) — Four people were killed in a rebel conflict in a rural part of the Colombian municipality of Puerto Lleras in Meta department, official sources said.
Meta’s Secretary of Government Hernan Gomez said the victims were not from the area, and that it appeared they were killed in a territorial dispute between dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and another rebel group.
“From the moment the Attorney General’s Office learned of the murder of four people in Meta, a specialized team of criminalists, forensic experts, prosecutors and investigators went to the site to clarify the facts,” Gomez said in a video.
Puerto Lleras Mayor Marly Johana Gutierrez convened an emergency security meeting with military authorities in the wake of the incident, said Gomez.
Demobilized in 2016, the FARC has become an opposition political party, but not all of its members have laid down their arms. — NNN-XINHUA
