TUNIS, Sept 2 (NNN-TAP) – Tunisian security services, seized yesterday, a large number of weapons and ammunition, in a town in the southern province of Medenine, the National Guard spokesman said.
“The smuggled arms were seized during a security operation conducted in Ben Guerdane, early yesterday, by anti-terrorist units, assisted by the Special Unit of the National Guard,” Houcemeddine Jbabli, said in a statement.
“Among the military weapons and ammunition seized are 11 Kalashnikov-type assault rifles, 14 ammunition magazines, and 4,400 7.62-mm bullets,” he added.
An investigation revealed that, two people were involved in the arms smuggling for terrorist organisations, according to the statement.
Tunisia witnessed terrorist activities since 2011, with dozens of security and military agents, civilians and foreign tourists having been killed.– NNN-TAP
