ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (NNN-APP) – Seven people, including women and children were killed, and 13 others missing, when a boat capsized in Pakistan’s south Sindh province yesterday, local reports said.
The boat, with 20 people on board, was sailing through the Indus River, when it capsized after getting trapped in a flood current, in the Sehwan Sharif area of the province, the reports said.
Rescue teams were trying to find the missing people from the river, after recovering the seven bodies.
Pakistan is facing heavy flooding in rivers and plains, after torrential monsoon rains wreaked havoc in the country.
According to the country’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 72 districts of the country were declared calamity hit, with a population of over 33 million affected by the floods.
NDMA statistics show that over 1,000 people have been killed and more than 15,000 others injured, in separate rain and flood-related accidents in the country since Jun 14.– NNN-APP
