45 Killed, 113 Injured In Rain Spells Across Pakistan In 24 Hours

ISLAMABAD, Aug 28 (NNN-APP) – At least 45 people were killed and 113 others injured, in heavy monsoon rain-triggered flash floods and other rain-related incidents in the last 24 hours in Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), said.

According to a report released by the NDMA Friday evening, the country’s southern Sindh province was the worst-hit region with 33 killed and 98 others injured, followed by the north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province with 10 killed and 13 injured, while the eastern Punjab province reported two deaths.

The total death toll in Pakistan from this season’s monsoon rains since mid-June has risen to 982, along with 1,456 others injured, the NDMA said.

Additionally, 682,139 houses, 149 bridges and 122 shops have been destroyed, it said.

Rescue and relief operations by the NDMA, other government agencies, volunteers, and non-governmental organisations were underway in the flood-hit areas.

Pakistani Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, has appealed to the international community for assistance, in responding to the scale of the flood calamity.– NNN-APP
