NEW DELHI, Aug 26 (NNN-PTI) – At least nine persons, including four women and two children, died, and around 14 were injured, in a road accident in India’s southern state of Karnataka yesterday, confirmed a local police, over the phone.
The accident occurred when the truck, carrying the victims, rammed into another heavy vehicle, coming from the opposite direction. The collision happened near the Kallembella area of Tumakuru district in Karnataka.
The injured were admitted to a local hospital.
All the deceased and injured were migrant labourers and residents of the Raichur district of the state, and were migrating to the state capital, Bengaluru, in search of work.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed deep grief over the loss of lives. He announced monetary compensation from the PM’s National Relief Fund for the victims.– NNN-PTI
