Monsoon rains, floods kill 903 people in Pakistan in three months

NEW DELHI, Aug 25 (NNN-Bernama) — Monsoon rains and floods have killed 903 people in Pakistan since June, the country’s Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman said.

The death toll includes 326 children and 191 women, and the number of those injured is 1,293.

“Record rains have caused a humanitarian crisis in the country,” Sherry said in a series of tweets on Wednesday.

The southern province of Sindh has reported the highest death toll at 293, followed by 230 deaths in Balochistan, 169 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and 164 in Punjab.

Millions of people are in need of rescue, shelter and relief materials, according to local media reports.

The floods have caused widespread damage to roads and other infrastructure and destroyed tens of thousands of homes.
