Myanmar Exported Over 558,700 Tonnes Of Beans, Pulses In Apr-Jul

YANGON, Aug 25 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar exported more than 558,700 tonnes of beans and pulses worth over 426 million U.S. dollars, in the first four months of the 2022-23 fiscal year, showed the Ministry of Commerce’s figures, yesterday.

From Apr 1 to Jul 29 this year, Myanmar shipped over 419,120 tonnes of beans and pulses, via sea routes, and transported over 139,579 tonnes of beans and pulses, through land borders, the ministry’s data showed.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Myanmar has shipped most of its exported beans and pulses via sea routes, official figures showed.

Myanmar’s current fiscal year started on Apr 1 this year, after the country changed its fiscal year cycle from the original Oct-Sept to Apr-Mar, starting this year.

Export of pulses, beans and sesame seeds from Myanmar, is the second highest among global counterparts and the highest among Southeast Asian countries, said the Myanmar Pulses, Beans and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association.

Myanmar exported over 249,245 tonnes of beans and pulses worth more than 217 million dollars in the 2020-2021 fiscal year, the ministry’s data showed.

Beans and pulses are Myanmar’s second most cultivated crops after rice, and account for 33 percent of the country’s total agricultural production.

Myanmar exports beans and pulses to countries like, China, India and Europe.– NNN-MNA
