NEW DELHI, Aug 21 (NNN-Bernama) — Pakistanis on Sunday mourned the passing away of their legendary singer Nayyara Noor.
The popular playback singer, whose career spanned decades, died at the age of 71 in Karachi city after a brief illness, local media reported.
Nayyara was born in the northeastern Indian state of Assam and migrated to Pakistan with her family in the 1950s.
A generation of Pakistanis grew up listening to her melodious ghazal recitals on television and radio.
“Heart breaking… She had moved beyond the worldly desires onto a serene and spiritual space with so much wisdom. She was our nightingale. May her soul rest in peace,” actor and singer Ali Zafar said in his tribute.
“There can’t be another Nayyara Noor. Pakistan lost a legendary star,” politician Faisal Javed Khan said in a social media post.
