Regional bloc condemns “terrorist attacks” against Venezuelan facilities

CARACAS, Aug 20 (NNN-Xinhua) — The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) on Friday condemned recent “terrorist attacks” against two Venezuelan facilities.

In a statement issued in Caracas, the bloc’s Secretary General Sacha Llorenti strongly denounced the attacks on a gas pipeline managed by Venezuela’s state-owned oil company PDVSA in eastern Venezuela, as well as a fire at a medicine warehouse in the capital.

“We denounce and reject these terrorist actions that threaten the peace, stability and security of the Venezuelan people,” said Llorenti.

The regional integration bloc also reaffirmed its “solidarity and support” for the Venezuelan people and government.

Venezuelan Oil Minister Tareck El Aissami condemned the July 16 attack on the pipeline as “part of the manual of sabotage perpetrated by the enemies of peace.”

Similarly, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said the fire at a Social Security Institute warehouse “was not an accident” but a “deliberate” act.

Founded in 2004, the ALBA-TCP bloc currently groups 10 countries, with the aim of reducing Latin America’s reliance on Western aid by promoting intra-regional alliances and cooperation in key sectors such as energy and trade. — NNN-XINHUA
