Laos Met Target Of Vaccinating 80 Percent Of Population Against COVID-19

VIENTIANE, Aug 12 (NNN-KPL) – A total of 5,885,061 Lao people have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, equaling 80.2 percent of the population, according to Laos’ Ministry of Health.

The figure meets the target set by the country, to vaccinate 80 percent of the population by the end of 2022.

As of Sunday, a total of 5,220,015 people have received a second dose, accounting for 71.1 percent of the population, according to the latest report by the Centre of Information and Education for Health, under the ministry.

The ministry urged people to continue to be cautious, and advised them to get vaccinated, as well as, to take a booster shot, to bolster waning immunity levels, following the first round of vaccinations.

The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, yesterday, reported one imported case and 96 locally transmitted cases in the country, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 212,124.

Laos reported its first two confirmed COVID-19 cases on Mar 24, 2020.– NNN-KPL
