LUSAKA, Aug 9 (NNN-Xinhua) — Zambia’s national narcotics agency, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), on Monday said it has arrested three foreigners suspected to have trafficked heroin in Lusaka, the country’s capital.
The suspects are two female Malawians and one Nigerian man who were arrested at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
Mathias Kamanga, the Spokesperson of the narcotics agency, said the suspects were found with 100 pellets of heroin concealed in a bag carried by one female suspect who was about to travel to Bangladesh through several destinations.
The suspects are expected to appear in court within the course of this week, he added.
He said in a release that the agency has heightened its operations in entry and exit points to ensure that Zambia was not being used as a transit point for drug traffickers resulting in many arrests being recorded in the recent past involving narcotics. — NNN-XINHUA
