KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (NNN-Bernama) — The Second Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen will be held on Saturday, July 23, under the aegis of the wife of Ukraine president Olena Volodymyrivna Zelenska.
The Ukraine Embassy, in a statement to Bernama, said that the event – themed “Ukraine and the world: The Future We (Re)build Together” – is to be held in a hybrid format.
There will be five studios – Ukraine, Warsaw, Brussels, London, and Washington, D.C. – where distinguished guests and speakers can join the discussion online.
“First Ladies and Gentlemen will be joined by world-leading experts, high-profile speakers, global celebrities, and influencers,” said the statement.
The key focus of this year’s summit will be on the human dimension of post-war recovery. The summit is not a political event, and as such, the focus will be on the humanitarian and social projects that First Ladies and Gentlemen are engaged in.
It further said that investing in human capital, which has been reduced or damaged by the war, is the basis for the prosperous development of Ukraine’s society and economy.
“Children’s recovery, women’s role in reconstruction, physical and mental health support, and the enhancement of education will all be in the spotlight of this year’s Summit. We want to create a platform for dialogue, and exchange of ideas to shape what our common future will look like,” the statement further said.
“Any discussions about the post-war recovery of Ukraine and the world, do not make sense if they do not prioritise the recovery of human capital – the health, knowledge, ability to work, and creativity of millions of Ukrainians,” it explained.
The summit aims, among other things, to raise funds for recovery projects in Ukraine and to discuss practical steps and actions by First Ladies and Gentlemen to address the issues and challenges that the world faces due to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The statement pointed out that although the format and circumstances of the summit have changed, the goal remained the same.
“Many First Ladies and Gentlemen play a powerful role in their own country. Not only are spouses of Heads of State a strong voice that can draw attention to social problems, but they are also a mighty force that can work effectively to solve them.
This is a particularly timely event, with awareness of the pressing problems facing humanity at its highest. Ukraine in this regard is proud to bring together and welcome for the second time the First Ladies and Gentlemen of the world,” it said.
