Iran Says Syrian Issue In Focus Of Tehran Trilateral Summit

TEHRAN, Jul 19 (NNN-ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said yesterday that, the issues surrounding Syria is on the agenda of the trilateral summit in Tehran today.

“We would try to stabilise the important goal of the Astana process, which was to reduce tensions in the conflict areas in Syria,” Amir-Abdollahian said, ahead of an imminent meeting of presidents of Iran, Türkiye and Russia in the capital Tehran.

“During my recent trip to Ankara and Damascus, I transferred the message of (Iranian) president that, the security crisis between Türkiye and Syria can be managed,” he said, adding that, “the Turkish side is talking about the possibility of a military operation up to 30 km into Syrian borders, and we have tried to address this crisis and Türkiye’s security concerns politically.”

At this sensitive juncture, one of the issues on the agenda is to prevent war and further displacement of a new wave of Syrian people, he was quoted as saying.

Besides, the return of Syrian refugees to their homes and helping peace, stability and security in Syria are among the topics that will be raised during the meeting, he noted.

Tehran will bring together Russian President, Vladimir Putin, Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and their Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi, as the leaders of the guarantor countries of the Astana Process, which was initiated in 2017 for peace in Syria.– NNN-ISNA
