They kill two policemen in the Colombian northwest
BOGOTA, July 19 (NNN-Xinhua) — Two policemen were killed in an attack by members of the Clan del Golfo criminal group in the northwestern Colombian department of Antioquia, local authorities confirmed.
The officers were in a restaurant in the municipality of Bello in the city of Medellin, capital of Antioquia, when four individuals on motorcycles fired shots and threw a grenade.
A reward equivalent to 11,150 U.S. dollars is being offered for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the attack, said local police.
Colombian President Ivan Duque condemned the attack on Twitter, calling it a “cowardly attack perpetrated by members of the Clan del Golfo in Bello, Antioquia, where patrolmen Geovanny Alcala and Andres Andrade lost their lives.”
On Saturday, another attack by the Clan del Golfo group on a highway police patrol killed a civilian and an officer in the town of Canasgordas, Antioquia.
Clan del Golfo is made up mostly of former paramilitaries now fighting for control of drug trafficking routes. — NNN-XINHUA
