NEW DELHI, July 19 (NNN-Bernama) — Indian and Chinese military commanders held another round of talks after a gap of four months to reduce tensions in the Ladakh region.
The 16th round of corps commander-level talks took place at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side on Sunday, according to a joint statement on Monday.
“Building on the progress made at the last meeting on 11 March 2022, the two sides continued discussions for the resolution of the relevant issues along the LAC (Line of Actual Control) in the Western Sector in a constructive and forward looking manner,” it said.
“The two sides reaffirmed that the resolution of remaining issues would help in restoration of peace and tranquility along the LAC in the Western Sector and enable progress in bilateral relations,” the statement added.
Both India and China have deployed thousands of troops and heavy weaponry in the Himalayan border region.
The situation has been relatively calm in the area since the Galwan river valley in Ladakh witnessed a savage hand-to-hand fighting between their forces in June 2020.
