France and Malaysia have built close economic cooperation — ambassador

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (NNN-Bernama) — France and Malaysia have built close economic cooperation as well as cultural, educational and scientific ties, said French Ambassador to Malaysia Roland Galharague.

He said Malaysia and France also went through various challenges, and the armies of the two countries fought together for peace in Bosnia and Lebanon.

Galharague said this year also marked the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Paris and Kuala Lumpur.

“France is one of the witnesses to the formation of this beautiful country (Malaysia) and as an Indo-Pacific citizen, France will continue to work with Malaysia,” he said in a speech in conjunction with France’s Independence Day on Thursday night.

Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Nancy Shukri was the guest of honor at the ceremony, held at a hotel here.

He said France also expressed solidarity with Ukraine.

“We are convinced that the world needs cooperation (and) not confrontation, multilateral action, not division,” he said.

Galharague said challenges plaguing humanity – such as climate change, health and unequal development – demand integrated action.

“We are lucky to be with Malaysia in this effort. So, allow me to use this opportunity to thank Malaysia for your friendship. We can work together to ensure that this region is free, inclusive and open, away from competition and confrontation, ”he said.
