COLOMBO, Jul 16 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court issued an order yesterday, barring former Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa, and former Finance Minister, Basil Rajapaksa, from leaving the country without approval of the court, until Jul 28.
A motion was filed on Jul 13, seeking an order prohibiting the two former senior officials, former Central Bank Governor, Ajith Nivard Cabraal and several other people from leaving the country, local media reported.
The motion also requested that an investigation be launched against the individuals responsible for the current economic situation in the country.
Sri Lanka has been facing a severe economic crisis which has sparked the protests.
Yesterday, Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced the official resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, before Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as an interim president.– NNN-XINHUA
